Biography

As a child, Gill lived in Vancouver and attended a private girls' school there for twelve years. After graduating from the private school, Gill attended university at York University in Toronto, Ontario. Gill graduated from York University in 1992 with a BFA Honors in Theatre Performance.

Career

After graduating from York, Gill lived in Toronto and spent the next several years working in theatre, guest roles in television series, commercials, and some film roles.

Gill's big break came in 2000 when she auditioned for and received the role of Lindsay Peterson in Queer as Folk. Gill held this role for the five season run of Queer as Folk. In 2001 Gill moved from Toronto to Victoria, British Columbia. Gill divided her time between Toronto (shooting Queer as Folk) and Victoria up to 2005 when Queer as Folk concluded.

With the conclusion of Queer as Folk, Gill has had a number of theatre, television, and film roles. In 2006 she joined the cast of the here! network original series Dante's Cove, billed as a "special guest star" in the role of Diana Childs. In a July 2007 interview, Gill stated that she decided to move to Los Angeles for a year to an attempt to find longer term acting roles.

In addition to her acting work, Gill is also a talented jazz singer and has worked as the Midsummer Lounge's featured act onboard the Mediterranean and Caribbean cruise ship M.S. Carousel. Gill also did in 2002 a three-night solo singing act at the jazz club, Top O’ The Senator, in Toronto. In 2005, Gill appeared in director Richard Bell's Eighteen as a seductive WWII era chanteuse. This marked Gill's first singing performance in a movie. The song, "In a Heartbeat", was written by celebrated maestro Bramwell Tovey and was later nominated for a Genie Award.

Thea Gill is best known for her portrayal of Lindsay Peterson on the landmark Showtime series QUEER AS FOLK (ACTRA Award nomination, Outstanding Performance by a Female)

Thea’s other acclaimed roles include: MASTERS OF HORROR: HOMECOMING, TRUTH, REUNION, ANDROMEDA, SIGHTINGS: HEARTLAND GHOST and MULLIGANS. Thea was awarded the 2002 Golden Sheaf award for Best Actress for her work on BLISS: NINA’S MUSE and was the 2005 Leo Award winner for her role as Caroline in THE COLLECTOR: THE MOTHER. She also appeared in the short film SWAP (Leo Award nomination for Best Actress); and EIGHTEEN (With Sir Ian McKellen), in which she sang the Genie Award – nominated song “IN A HEARTBEAT.” She guest starred in the episode CAUSE FOR ALARM on the 5th season of the CBS hit series GHOST WHISPERER.

Also a celebrated stage actress, she starred in such notable roles as: Claudia in Joanna Murray-Smith’s HONOUR, Elena in Chekhov’s UNCLE VANYA; Desdemona in Shakespeare’s OTHELLO and as Catherine in David Auburn’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, PROOF. She recently graced the stage once again playing Blanche Dubois in Tennessee William’s A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE where she received the 2010 Victoria Critic’s Spotlight Award for Best Performance in a professional production.

Current projects include the feature films REMEMBERING NIGEL (With Martin Landau & Sally Kirkland) for which Thea, an accomplished professional singer, recorded her own original version of the Willie Nelson hit: “CRAZY” produced by Damizza Young. She also stars in THE PUTT PUTT SYNDROME (with Jason London and Heather Thom) and in the Sy-Fy Channel’s new Mini Series: RIVERWORLD (Starring alongside Alan Cumming) She starred in the Hallmark Channel movie LIES BETWEEN FRIENDS (with Gabrielle Anwar), and Co-starred in the feature film THE BOY SHE MET ONLINE (with Alexandra Paul), in the upcoming feature film MOTHER COUNTY as well as the short film SLIP AWAY.
She is also currently touring her “Something Cool and Evening with Thea Gill Show” Co-Produced with Grammy Award winning producer Gail Deadrick.

Thea is also the “Face” for the SANS AGE skin care line as well as the “spokeswoman” for DMK cosmetics and has recently started WONKY GIRL PRODUCTIONS. A production company that will encompass all forms of entertainment. A Play Based on the behind the scenes of the 1930 film The Blue Angel is also being produced by Gill’s company and will star Gill as the Movie Icon Marlene Dietrich. The show will be written by John Guare (SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION, HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES) with musical direction from Grammy Award winning composer, conductor & Arranger Gail Deadrick (Natalie Cole, The Pointer Sisters, James Ingram)
